Ever since the debut of the popular, science-fiction franchise, BioWare has made it clear that the Mass Effect story would unfold in a trilogy. Without announcing a formal release schedule, however, the development cycle of each installment was unknown. When would we get a second chance to fill the shoes of Commander Shepard? We may be one step closer to finding out.
At the 2009 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, BioWare will be presenting a 60-minute lecture titled “The Iterative Level Design Process of Bioware’s Mass Effect 2.” Lead Technical Designer, Dusty Everman and Project Manager, Corey Andruko will speak on behalf of the Edmonton-based development studio, discussing the team’s “level-creation process, which is focused on maximizing iteration for quality while minimizing rework and cost.”
While hardly an official announcement, one is likely to be forthcoming if BioWare is willing to discuss the technical advancements made in the game. The Game Developers Conference runs from March 23rd – 27th. We’ll post more details as they emerge.
