GDC Canada begins tomorrow, keynotes from Microsoft, BioWare

The first ever Game Developers Conference Canada will open its doors tomorrow with an inaugural keynote address from Don Mattrick, Senior Vice President of Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft. Part of New Media BC’s Vancouver Digital Week, GDC Canada was created in response to Canada’s increasingly important role in the international video game development landscape. Building on the success of the Vancouver International Game Summit, GDC Canada hopes to provide an environment for critical information exchange, creating industry connections and stimulating creativity.

On day two of the conference, BioWare founders Dr. Ray Muzyka and Dr. Greg Zeschuk will deliver a keynote address entitled “Emotionally Engaging Narrative: Gaming’s New Frontier.”

“We couldn’t have found two more appropriate speakers for the inaugural GDC Canada, as Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk are two of the most esteemed members of the game development community worldwide, and certainly leaders amongst the Canadian game development community,” said Izora de Lillard, event director at Think Services Game Group. “Both are also pioneers of the move towards making games that tell rich stories and affect players on a deep emotional level; we look forward to hearing how they inspire the attendees of GDC Canada to push their games into what they are rightfully calling gaming’s ‘new frontier.’”

We’ll be posting coverage of the conference throughout the week, providing details and reactions to any announcements as they are made.
