Rico and Salem are back at it again in the latest trailer for Army of Two: The 40th Day. In addition to revealing some new co-operative gameplay elements, the trailer also features a few themes not found in the original game: realistic human drama and maturity. Don’t get me wrong – I’m all for playing a realistic war game, but wasn’t the Army of Two franchise meant to be satirical? Where are the bling’d out guns and obnoxious kill celebrations? This trailer for Army of Two: The 40th Day reveals a game that looks very different from its predecessor.
Thankfully, in the last few seconds of the trailer we get some classic Rico and Salem.

Small manned-armies are 4 srs, ok? You can’t tell me Rambo wasn’t serious.
It is pretty much the AIDS of game development nowadays though, that they HAVE to try (and fail) to jerk some emotions out of you other than happiness and fun. I’m all for moral dilemmas and hard choices, but some games need to be just plain fun, too.
Trine did that pretty well, actually.
To be honest, the humour and the absurdity of the original Army of Two was what made it fun. Without it, it was just another third-person shooter trying to follow in the footsteps of Gears of War. I didn’t care for the story, and the gameplay wasn’t entirely impressive, but the arrogant quips and sarcastic one-liners kept me coming back. That and my gold-plated, diamond-studded AK-47.
