In the millennia since Duke Nukem Forever began development, another completely over-the-top first-person shooter franchise was born: Serious Sam. Featuring an arsenal of insanely powerful weaponry and swarms of ridiculous enemies, the Serious Sam games were a great deal of fun to play, especially with online co-op. This summer, long-time fans and new fans alike will be able to experience the insanity of the Serious Sam franchise on Xbox LIVE Arcade, with the release of Serious Sam: The First Encounter HD.
Developed by Croteam, the creators and developers of the original Serious Sam series, Serious Sam: The First Encounter HD is a re-tooled and re-vamped version of the original game in beautiful high definition. The game will also feature a new version of the CroTech engine used to power the original franchise. And for those dying to know, the four-player online co-op will remain intact. There goes more of my summer nights!
“We are really excited to update our hero and recreate Sam in stunning high definition for Xbox LIVE Arcade players,” said Roman Ribaric, CEO of Croteam. “The fans have lobbied us hard to do this, so we are stoked about bringing Sam back as big, bold and bad as he ever was.”

Oh man, this is going to rock. I remember many sleepless nights going through these games the first time around, and I’m hungry for more!
Seriously.
Sadly, while I did get to play Serious Sam co-op a few times, I spent most of my time playing the single-player campaign. That was still really fun though, especially the later levels when hundreds of enemies swarm you. Good times!
