Gothic was great, and Gothic II was pretty great as well. Gothic 3? Not so much. I’m hoping that German developer Piranha Bytes can bring the polish and the focus of the first two games in the Gothic franchise to their latest action role-playing game effort, Risen. In development for the PC and Xbox 360 platform, Piranha Bytes and publisher Deep Silver today announced that the game will be landing on store shelves on October 2, 2009.
“The release date for Risen enables us to introduce the game to the market in the best possible condition,” says Daniel Oberlerchner, Brand Manager at Deep Silver. “We have been in the Beta phase here for several weeks, and now our focus lies on eliminating the remaining bugs.”
All in-game content is said to be complete, and all dialogue has been recorded. With a total of three quality assurance teams working on Risen for the next few months, Piranha Bytes appears to be doing their best to avoid another sloppy bug-fest the likes of Gothic 3. Fingers crossed!
