Visceral Games introduce us to the controls of ‘Dead Space: Extraction’

When I heard that the prequel to Dead Space was coming exclusively to the Nintendo Wii, I was a little disappointed. I loved Dead Space and couldn’t fathom playing the game without its often horrifying, high-definition visuals. However, I soon learned that developer Visceral Games wasn’t merely trying to recreate the original Dead Space formula on the Nintendo Wii, but was creating a new experience altogether.

Designed to be an on-rails shooter rather than a survival horror adventure game, Dead Space: Extraction employs many control concepts that are only currently possible on the Nintendo Wii. In the original Dead Space, pressing a button would alternate your weapon between the vertical and horizontal firing modes. In Extraction, players need only twist the WiiMote controller to emulate they wish to use while firing. Furthermore, Extraction will subject players to some scenes that are incredibly dark, making it almost impossible to see. By shaking the controller up and down, players can use a phosphorus tube that will illuminate their surroundings with a faint green glow.

It may be a different game than the original Dead Space, but it does seem fun. To see the aforementioned controls in action, check out the Visceral Games developer diary below.
