Another two-fer this week on Xbox LIVE Arcade! We’ve got The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition and the equally long-named Madballs in… Babo: Invasion, for 800 MSP and 1200 MSP, respectively.
The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition is an updated version of the LucasArts cult favourite (certainly my favourite point-and-clicker) The Secret of Monkey Island, a classic adventure game from 1990. The Special Edition features new hand-drawn art at a whopping 1080p, along with the original voice overs and re-mastered music score using actual real instruments. I’ll miss the PC bleeper soundtrack, to be honest. But most importantly, the game supports a scene-for-scene hot swap with the original, Classic presentation. Huge honking pixels here we come! All this can be yours for 800 MSP, starting this Wednesday. No word on whether or not the content from the underproduced disk #114 will be included, so players will be able to experience the catacombs under the stump.
Madballs in… Babo: Invasion is a creatively named title from Canadian company Playbrains. I had to look up what these Madballs are. Turns out, they’re a toy from the mid 80s I had completely managed to repress from my memory. At least my geek cred is intact. So what’re we getting? Details are sketchy at this point, but it’s an Avatar game supporting up to four player online co-op and 16 player versus. Seems like an arena-battling game where you get to be gross little slimy and squishy guys. It has something called Invasion Mode, where each team gets to construct their half of a map before pitting their eyeballs against each other. Which is a really cool idea. There’s the standard Deathmatch and Capture the Flag modes for those who aren’t feeling so creative, though. And a single player (which also doubles as co-op) campaign, spanning a number of levels described as ‘epic’ and ‘ten’. Got a spare 1200 MSP kicking around? You too will be able to find out what a Babo: Invasion involves, this Wednesday.
